Camaraderie 2022

It has been two full years since anyone from the Westlands Primary Class of 1965 had a makan gathering, be it lunch or dinner. Everyone was still very wary of the Covid-19 infections. But with the loosening of restrictions since the start of May this year, it was felt that this could also be the opportunity to meet up again. However, only eight responded positively to this call.

Nevertheless, the makan session still went ahead at the Ocean Green Restaurant in Northam Road on 14 May 2022 because we did not want to disappoint the former teachers who had agreed to turn up. Liew Chin Tong, 85, was the first to say yes, and Tan Eng Chuan, 84, soon followed with another affirmative reply.

For Tan Eng Chuan, it was the first time that we had gotten through to him and he expressed a lot of happiness that we were the first batch of his former pupils who remembered him. "You don't know the feeling," he said, "to have your old pupils contact you." We also contacted Thomas Khor, 85, and Mrs Yeoh Poey Chee, 88, but both regretted being unable to join because of various health problems. We wish them speedy recovery.
