Journey through time since WPS:
  • Soo Heong continued his education after WPS in Westlands Secondary School and Methodist High School. 
  • Starting as a writer with The Straits Echo in Penang and later The Star, he built a career in journalism for over 40 years. 
  • After Penang, he joined Bernama in Kuala Lumpur writing on general news, sports, and business. At the news agency’s Economic Service, he rose to become Assistant Editor, Editor, and Executive Editor. 
  • In 2007,  Soo Heong was promoted to the position of Editor-in-Chief — the first Bernama business journalist to occupy that post — and held that position until 2012, before being elevated to Chief Executive in 2013. In October 2014, he retired from Bernama after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60.
  • He is now, among others, Trustee of the Malaysian Press Institute and National Press Club of Malaysia.
